Internet Safety
One of my favorite games to play was probably the one that AT&T posted, the game obviously promoted internet safety, but it also made it fun for children to learn about what's safe and what isn't when it comes to using computers and surfing the web. It wasn't too long that my interest was completely lost, but it was long enough to keep their attention. They also did a good job with the design of the game and made sure it was "kid-friendly. They also related things that would recognize from their own personal lives to create a common ground so the children could create connections in their heads and actually remember the message that the company wanted to get across. Overall, I thought that they did a wonderful job and if I wanted my children to learn about some of the dangers online, I would have them play this game! I really didn't get a chance to view the other videos, but I'm sure that there were some others that were quality as well.
Filthy Dirty Muck
I think that regardless of all these regulations that are trying to be made, people are still going to be exposed to these "indecent" things. I believe that in all honesty, the fact that the government is trying to hard to keep all aspects of our world "clean" and without any indecency is a little ridiculous. In some instances though, I do agree with censoring certain TV shows, songs, and movies for audiences that are younger and maybe more susceptible to being easily persuaded one way. But I also think, that at a certain point, people have to make their own decisions, and the government should not get in the way. For example, I think that it is bogus for large companies like Apple to ban the sale of certain apps just because they believe it is too explicit or indecent. Who are they to decide if something is inappropriate? They are just opinions in my mind, and everyone is entitled to their own. I feel like the government today has the thought in their mind that they need to control every waking moment of every one's lives to prevent any type of corruption from happening. In my opinion, there really is no way to stop it completely, so why not let people make their own choices?
Green Screen Show
The art of green screening has been be something that has always seemed very interesting to me. I never really knew what it entitled until I took a photoshop class during my sophomore year of high school. We had to do a unit on it in class where we had to shoot a partner doing a pose or something behind a green screen and then remove the background from around them and place a new one in. It was actually a much simpler process then I expected and the ending product turned out to be pretty cool! The actually process of green screen technology that is used in movie productions and video games however is a little bit more complicated and sophisticated. The actual term used is called chroma key, or chroma keying. And it is explained as a special effects production for layering two images or video streams together based on color hues.
The Great Train Robbery
Not going to lie, at first I was pretty lost when I viewed the film. I had never heard of it prior to writing this blog. Even after I sat down and watched it the plot was still very blurry to me, so I decided to go ahead and do some research of my own on the film. Turns out I found more information than I thought I would and now I realize that the film was monumental back when it was first recorded! Apparently it featured a number of innovative techniques from that time period. One of them was the way that color was added to the already black and white film. I noticed that in the dancing scene two of the ladies dresses were colored violet and yellow and it made me wonder what the significance of that may have been...? I also noticed that when the little girl came to find the man lying on the ground her dress was also colored. Another thing I though was pretty cool was just watching the movie and taking in the nostalgia of it all. The quality of the movie obviously wasn't all that great, but I think that's what made it even more special. Also, the fact that it is a silent film makes it intriguing as well. It's strange in a sense because in the 21st century, all mainstream movies have some time of dialogue in them. I believe that making a movie silent allows the viewers to take on their own opinion on what the actors and actresses may be feeling or wanting to say in certain scenes, it overall makes the experience of watching it more enjoyable!
